Rev. Dr. David Lee Massey, the son of Elizabeth (Massey) Berry and the late Fred Massey, Jr. was born July 27, 1957 in Chatham County, North Carolina. Born fourth of eight children, he accepted the Lord at an early age and began preaching at the age of nine. He joined the Hickory Grove Baptist Church near Chapel Hill, North Carolina where, at age 10, he was licensed to preach the gospel on April 21, 1968 and later ordained into the ministry on July 14, 1974.
By divine appointment, Rev. Massey’s leadership, ministerial experience and spiritual vision is now blessing the Hopewell Baptist Church, Windsor, Connecticut, where he serves as Senior Pastor and Teacher. He has led his Church in the building of a multi-million dollar worship facility. After all phases are completed the worship facility will house over twelve hundred individuals.
Rev. Massey completed the spring, 1999 Pastoral Counseling Training Program and the 2000 Supervisory Group Training Program of the Saint Francis Academy For Clinical Pastoral Training. In May, 2000 he received the Doctor of Divinity Degree from Eastern/Maryland Theological Seminary in Lynchburg, Virginia and Doctor of Humane Letters from Eastern Theological. He is a member of the American Association of Christian Counselors, and the Black American Association of Christian Counselors. He is a Pastoral Counselor with the Pastoral Counseling Center, Inc.
He is the former moderator of the Asher Association of the Connecticut Missionary Baptist Convention (Hartford Area), Inc. and presently serves as President of the Interdenominational Ministerial Alliance of Greater Hartford. He was recently installed as the Second Vice President of the New England Missionary Baptist Convention.
Rev. Massey attributes all of his accomplishments to the power and grace of God, and states as the Apostle Paul, “By the grace of God, I am what I am.”
ASSOCIATE MINISTERS
Hopewell's associate ministers continues to grow as the needs of our congregation grow. Pastor Massey provides leadership and guidance to the associate ministers ensuring the consistency of the church's teaching and the approach to ministering in all circumstances. Our licensed/ordained ministers have varying degrees of experience and expertise. Pastor Massey mentors each minister and utilizes their skills based on their gifts from God.
