Reverend Dr. David L. Massey, the son of Elizabeth Massey and the late Fred Massey, Jr. was born July 27, 1957 in Chatham County, North Carolina.  Born the fourth of eight children, he accepted the Lord at an early age and began preaching at the age of nine.  He joined the Hickory Grove Baptist Church near Chapel Hill, North Carolina where, at age 10, he was licensed to preach the gospel on April 21, 1968 and later ordained into the ministry on July 14, 1974.

After faithfully serving three churches in North Carolina, Rev. Massey brought his compassionate leadership, rich ministry experience and heartfelt spiritual vision to Hopewell Baptist Church where he has lovingly served the congregation for 32 years.

Rev. Massey completed the Spring 1990 Pastoral Counseling Training Program and the 2000 Supervisor Group Training Program at the Saint Francis Academy for Clinical Pastoral Training.  In May 2000, he received the Doctor of Divinity Degree from Eastern-Maryland Theological Seminary in Lynchburg, VA as well as a Doctor of Humane Letters degree from Eastern Theological.  He is a Pastoral Counselor and a member of both the American Association of Christian Counselors and the Black American Association of Christian Counselors.

Reverend Massey served as First Vice President of the New England Missionary Baptist Convention and as Treasurer of the Asher Association of the Connecticut State Missionary Baptist Convention.  He also served as the Asher Association's first moderator and served two terms as  President of the Interdenominational Ministerial Alliance of Greater Hartford.  In June 2011, he completed the Dean's Certification course offered by the National Baptist Convention U.S.A. Inc.

Over the years, Reverend Massey has received numerous notable awards and honors.  Rev. Massey was most recently recognized by the National Baptist Convention, U.S.A., Inc. and the Connecticut State Missionary Baptist Convention with a milestone award honoring more than 50 years of preaching the gospel of God.

Rev. Massey is happily married to Lady Erin (Smith) Massey.  He has two children, Justin and Leah, and two grandchildren.

Reverend Massey attributes all of his accomplishments to the Power and Grace of God.  Echoing the Apostle Paul, he says, "By the Grace of God, I am what I am!"
